Teak is naturally oily, which is why it has long been used for boards and worktops — it takes up less water than most timbers and stands up well to repeated washing. Each board is carved individually, so shape, grain and weight vary.
Hand-wash rather than putting a board in the dishwasher, dry it standing on its edge, and re-oil occasionally to stop it drying out.
